Should shops open on Sundays?

Some people may say that shops shouldn’t open on Sundays because Sundays should be a family day. Some people go to Church or stay at home and relax before going back to work or school. This also includes people who work at shops so if they are at work how can they do this?

However, some people may argue that we need shops open on Sundays such as chemists if people get ill, food shops if people need food or petrol stations to get fuel or other things like that.

After asking students at Montgomery, the majority think that shops shouldn't be open on Sundays as everyone needs time off and a break.

Oli Sykes from Bring Me The Horizon breaks Coldplay's table at the NME Awards 2016

Bring Me The Horizon won the NME Innovation Award at the  NME Awards on February 17th, 2016 and Oli Sykes, frontman of Bring Me The Horizon trashed and broke Coldplay's table during their performance.

Whilst singing a very energetic performance of 'Happy Song', Sykes ventured out into the crowd of tables and wandered around while "looking for sound" and on his way back, climbed onto Coldplay's table. When he got up on the table, he kicked over glasses and bottles and Jonny Buckland; guitarist for Coldplay; moved out of the way to avoid getting splashed with drinks.

The frontman of Coldplay, called Chris Martin, mentioned to NME after that he "hadn't heard of Bring Me The Horizon but it was very rock and roll." Speaking to NME after the incident, Oli explained himself saying "I had no sound in my ears so I thought 'Well, there might be sound out there.' There weren't sound out there so when I came back there was a table, which I got on. There wasn't any sound on there, but it was a bit more energetic up there. It was in no way a protest against Coldplay."

I personally believe what Chris Martin said was untrue as in late 2015, Sykes called out Coldplay for copying their album cover for "Sempiternal" that came out in 2013. Coldplay's "A Head Full Of Dreams" album cover is almost identical to "Sempiternal". On October 30th 2015, Sykes tweeted saying Coldplay has "jacked" their album cover.

In October/November 2016, Bring Me The Horizon are touring the UK. (Dates Below)

Should school start at 10am?

School times:

China-8am-3pm.

Japan-8:30am-3pm.

Indonesia-7am or 7:30am-1pm, night session:1pm-6:30pm

A school in London is the first school in  England that have changed their school times to start at 10am, due to research that told them that a teenagers brain doesn’t start to function  until 10am.

The UCL academy introduced the later start when it opened in September. According to the school, the pupils have been more engaged and awake in lessons. The results vary  between the behaviour of each student and gradually over time the school is said to be making more progress than an average school in Britain.

Schools across Britain need to wake up to the distinct sleep needs of an adolescent.

For a teenager, a 7am alarm call is the equivalent of a 5am start for a person in their 50s.

Students that are deprived of sleep find it harder to concentrate in class more than a student that can get an early nights rest.

But an early night is not just enough for a juvenile, teenagers need 9 hours of sleep a night to maintain full alertness and academic performance.

Observations at a uk school in Liverpool suggested that many students were only getting just 5 hours of sleep on a school night, there has been many reports of students falling asleep in class.

Many side effects of sleep deprivation include: grumpiness, mood swings, insensitivity angriness and stress.

Overall it is scientifically proven that students shouldn’t be made to go to school so early. If the government changes the school times it may improve punctuality

as students have no excuse to over sleep. Improved attendance means higher GCSE results due to the fact that there is not a lack of education.

Football Preview

Liverpool vs Manchester United

20:00 tonight

Recently, Manchester United has been under scrutiny due to under-performance on the pitch. Currently in 6th, United are 2 points below West Ham United and are above Liverpool by 3 points.

Under new management, Liverpool have been improving. However, Liverpool have recently lost in a cup final. This could have knocked their confidence. Liverpool are currently below Manchester United in the league.

World Book Day

On Thursday 3rd March, children from all around the world dressed up as their favourite book characters and went into school. This year wasn’t like any other year though, as it was the 19th anniversary of this successful event. As a reward for taking part in this day every student received a voucher allowing them to spend £5 on a book of their choice. From Harry Potter to Dorothy, thousands of children and adults hand made their own costumes for this yearly experience! Some schools don’t just allow their children to dress up, they also host some amazing activities for all ages to take part in. As a little extra, the official World Book Day website sold books for as cheap as £1! Not only that they held 16 competitions with prizes for the children to win:

  • A year’s supply of books with a reading chest
  • A full set of Roald Dahl books
  • Design a national book token and so much more!

What a successful year it has been! They raised so much money and we hope that this day will continue to be an accomplishment! Many children enjoyed this day and we anticipate that they will do so next year!
